Dynamite Chronicles: The Holy Spirit

In John 14, Jesus says, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these he will do, because I am going to the Father...And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth...You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.":

The Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, is very active. In the Old Testament, God sent his Spirit upon prophets and judges. In the Gospels, the Spirit descends like a dove on Jesus when he is baptized by his cousin, John the Baptist.

Then, in Acts, the Spirit comes to the church. It is here, now, to empower the people of God to live powerfully for their Creator and King, Saviour and Lord. The church is now able and responsible to go into all the world, make disciples, baptize, and teach all the commands of Jesus, as his authority is not only supreme, but made a reality in the church and those who follow Jesus.

The Spirit can act through us to do some big things, and some seemingly small things. Galatians 5:22-23 tells us what living filled with the Spirit will include. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-control. These things show the evidence of a Spirit-filled life, pushing us closer to our King.

1. Pray and ask God for his Spirit.
2. Read John 14; Galatians 5; Ezekiel 37; Acts
3. Put the fruit of the Spirit into practice.
